L. Whitney Standish (1919-?) was an active American salon photographer, who lived in Boston, MA. He exhibited at many of the leading pictorialist salons of the 1940s, including the Rhode Island School of Design and others. His work is in the collections of the Minneapolis Museum of Art, Addison Gallery of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Photographic Society of America and the Seattle Art Museum. He is listed in the George Eastman House database. His work also appeared the 1941-1950 issues of the American Annual of Photography.Standish became interested in photography on his twelfth birthday, when he received a box camera and Kodak darkroom outfit. During high school, he worked as a darkroom assistant at a photographic studio. In 1936, he started interacting with photographic organizations, and three years later he was the president of the Boston Camera Club. He spent much time with the New England Council of Camera Clubs and the Photographic Society of America.
