Interesting portrait by this salt Lake City, Utah studio. Photographer details on the verso of the card. Small closed edge tear at lower left. Charles William Carter was born on August 4, 1832 iin London, England. Carter emigrated to Salt Lake City in 1859. After working for Savage & Ottinger in 1862, he set up "Carter's View Emporium" in 1863. The name changed to "Carter's Photograph Gallery" in 1866. Carter sold his entire negative collection to the Bureau of Information of the Mormon Church in 1906. He died on January 27, 1918 in Midvale, UT.
