Dekais, who was Belge, spent his professional career as a drawing teacher and his greatest hobby was painting, including watercolors and oil. According to relatives, his favorite paintings were landscapes, especially of "water landscapes" from the terrace of his villa on the Costa Brava (in Spain).
He was a member of the Association Belge de Photographe & de Cinematographie, and his photos appeared in many of that association's bulletins.
Dekais fought during WWII against the Nazis and received a medal after the war.
