About This Image

A rare and very large heliogravure by Charles Nègre. This is one of the very rare prints made by Negre, and not one of the still rare ones printed later by Andre Jammes. See: Borcoman, Charles Negre 1820-1880, pl.155, p.210. Provenance: Nègre family. A dark open portal adds a distinctive quality to the image. Size relates only to the image. Printed in the margins of the plate: "Cathédrale de Chartres, côté occidental, porte latérale de droite, XIIe siècle. Gravure héliographique sur acier, procédé Charles Nègre, imprimerie Drouart". Some typical light spots and very small tears in the margins not affecting the image.

Provenance: Galerie Texbraun.

Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
