Bettle was born in 1873 and was an amateur photographer, who worked as superintendent of meters at Public Service Electric & Gas in Newark, NJ.
In 1950, He died at age 77.
He exhibited extensively at the photo salons of the mid to late 1930s. The Worcester Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum of Art both have holdings of his work.
