About This Image

Corners trimmed. The number "15" on the soldiers' hats. There is a lieutenant in the center second row. Illegible writing on verso including a date 1933 and the Scandinavian word for Christmas (Julen). The soldiers appear to be equipped with Krag-Jorgensen Danish 8mm M1889-type infantry rifles. The coat of arms along with the word Julen, plus the rifles and kepis on the soldiers seem to indicate that this was either a Danish or a Norwegian platoon (likely the latter). This fine photograph of a group portrait of soldiers reminds me a great deal of the work of the German August Sander. The tonality is also very similar with rich purple color.

Most U.S. domestic Fed Ex ground shipping (Media Mail for books) is free of charge except for larger and heavier items, or unless the buyer wants express shipping (email us your requests for the latter). International shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their local customs duties and taxes, which will be charged by Fed Ex, which will contact the client prior to delivery.
