| Description: The photographer's full name is Andre Philippe Alfred Regnier, comte de Gronau, Duc de Massa. Regnier photographed in the Indre and the Loire provinces of France and generally lived at the Chateau de Montcontour. This image shows his property in Franconville. Unusually strong detail perhaps from a paper negative, which may have been waxed or possibly a glass negative. The duke, or marquis as he was known at the time of these images, had the reputation of being a bit of dandy. He dressed up in costumes and photographed himself and his friends. He also photographed several castles that he owned. He was an amateur photographer, who worked with waxed paper and glass negatives, and received a bronze medal for his work at an exposition in Troyes in 1860. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
