| Description: The scene is probably in one of the two large parks that bookend Paris on the east and west (either Bois de Boulogne or Bois de Vincennes). The number 40 and the initials "H.B." are reversed out of negative. The albumen print is very early (probably about 1852. It is certainly before 1855 when Bayard switched over to wet collodion glass plates, because the image was made from a paper negative. The handwritten joined H.B. initials are nearly identical to other known Bayard prints and the plate size is also similar to many Bayards. Coupled with the paper negative and very early albumen, this image is clearly by Bayard. Prints by Bayard are very rare. See: Duca, Bayard (Prisma 1943), plates XV, XXXI, XXXII for similar initials. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
