| Description: Image shows a crudely set up telescope that has been designed to take pictures. The temporary structure has triangular roof flaps that were used by both the French and British in their portable observatories. The frame within a frame look, especially with the crudity of the frame, adds a certain look of modernism to the image. Provenance: a group of images from Jules Janssen, noted photographer/astronomer (1824-1907). Title is written in ink in French (Lunette photographique equatoriale). Despite that notation the picture was apparently taken just south of Paris prior to the telescope being moved to its eventual equatorial location. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
