| Description: Italian pifferari (man and woman) drink together. Peasants such as these often came to Paris to entertain and earn money and were often employed as models by Parisian photography studios. Black glass surround, paper-taped, photographer's printed paper label "Daguerreotype Emaille. Systeme Millet, Professeur,...6, Rue Montesquieu, 6, Paris" on the reverse. Millet is considered one of the most important French daguerreotypists, we quote from Janet Buerger's book "French Daguerreotypes", page 62: "He was among the most colorful and respected portrait photographers of his day. Often called "The priest of the Daguerreotype," he seemed to have specialized almost solely in that medium. He operated one of the most elegant studios in Paris." Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
