Photographed in Avedon's Manhattan apartment studio on April 12, 1975 for a Vogue shoot. The Tharp company consisted of Twyla, Rose Marie Wright, Jennifer Way, Tom Rawe and Kenneth Rinker. Rinker was given the Polaroid by Avedon, who creased it as if to crop the image closer to its companion photograph's ultimate use in Vogue itself, where Twyla Tharpe and her troupe were described as "the most decisive young American dance power today." Rinker himself was not only a member of Tharp's troupe, but was also her assistant choreographer on the film version of 'Hair'. Provenance: photographer; dancer Kenneth Rinker.
