| Description: Stamped with photographer's information on verso of mount. Emil Cadou was born in New York City in 1926. He was an African-American. He became a photojournalist and contributed to Life magazine. Cadoo decided to move to Paris and worked for Elle and Realitiés magazines. In Paris he became close friends with the singer Edith Piaf. He is better known today for his male nudes. In 1963 he illustrated Henry Miller's novel "Sexus". This led him to create an entire body of work made up of photomontages of men's bodies, sculpture and plant life. His photographs are in the collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Centre George Pompidou Museee National d'Art Modern and the French Bibliotheque Nationale.
