| Description: Title written in period ink on recto of mount. Robert MacPherson took a virtually identical image. The temple dates from late 2nd century BC in Republican Era. This temple is known as the Temple of the Fortuna Virilis but should be identified as the Temple of Portunus, an ancient tutelary deity of rivers and harbors. The building was very close to the Port Tiberinus on the Tiber river. The attribution of this temple to Human Fortune is without foundation. In the 9th century it was used as a church. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
