Frantisek Dostal (July 21, 1938, Prague) is a contemporary Czech journalist and documentary photographer living in Prague. He studied at the School of Mechanical Engineering (1953-1957. He took up photography in 1960 as an amateur. His first work was published in 1964 in the weekly magazine, Kv?ty (or Flowers). He participated actively in the salons and was published by many magazines and newspapers. Dostal has published more than 15 books of his work, and has been shown worldwide.

His most famous collection is the "Summer People", which he photographed between 1968 and 1990 on the Zlenice River in Sázava. His focus over the past 30 years is primarily the street people of Prague. His work is characterized by gentle humor capitalizing on the often absurd encounters and disparate elements of his images.

In 2008 he was honored by the Czech Ministry of Culture for his lifetime contribution to Czech photography.
