Old number reversed out of negative. The two shop signs read: 'G Blass Pioneer Store' (which was based at 70 main Street) and 'Kilner & Handel'. The contemporary trade directories give the address as 72 Main Street. These two businesses only operated in such close proximity during the 1880-81 period. This enables us to date this photograph and confirm it as the earliest work of Kusakabe's studio, which opened in 1880.
