| Description: Crimean War veteran stands in front of cannon with makeshift flag stuck in the muzzle of his rifleThis is a very scarce and important image. Joseph Cundall and Robert Howlett were commissioned by Queen Victoria to create a series of photographs of Crimean Heroes when the war was over. Cundall was responsible for studio portraits showing the successful heroism of Victoria's men. Howlett worked on location at the naval dockyards and the veterans' hospital recording the underside of war, in the portraits of those who were severely wounded. These portraits have recently been reused on a series of postage stamps in England. Image is irregularly cut into a semi-oval. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges. |
