Mauche, who apparently had distribution in both Rome and Florence. There is a title in period pencil on the verso. The lone figure gives this image scale. The temple dates from late 2nd century BC in Republican Era. This temple is known as the Temple of the Fortuna Virilis but should be identified as the Temple of Portunus, an ancient tutelary deity of rivers and harbors. The building was very close to the Port Tiberinus on the Tiber river. The attribution of this temple to Human Fortune is without foundation. In the 9th century it was used as a church.
