Description: Indian man, perhaps Rust's assistant, stands at far right of image. His name and negative number (112) is scratched into the negative. His stamp and a title in period pencil is on the verso of the photograph. Thomas Rust worked as an assistant to F.W. Baker in Calcutta at the end of the 1860s. By 1870 he was in charge of the Calcutta Photographic Co. with W. T. Burgess and ran the company until 1874. In 1874 Rust went into business for himself and opened five studios in Allahabad, Mussoorie, Murree, Landour and Meerut. Benares is the only place in India where there is a Nepalese temple. The temple is said to house an image of Pashupateshvara, Shiva's manifestation at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu. With a couple of old but professional repairs at the bottom and bottom right corner on two very tiny closed tears. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
