| Description: Initials and date in period iron gall ink on the image itself. Near Compiègne is the village of Pierrefonds. This castle, which dominates the town, was completely destroyed and rebuilt. It was restored by the great restoration architect Eugene Emmanuel Viollet-Le-Duc. The restoration began in 1858 and was completed in 1870, and this images dates to before the reconstruction. The Chateau is the scene of much of the story of the Three Musketeers and the Man in the Iron Mask. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer.
