Description:

A beautifully hand-colored portrait of a woman who holds a book with a decorated cover. The cover is gilded and the hand that holds the book shows off a gilded and red coral and gold bracelet and gold jewelry holding her tie. There is other coloring. The ¼-plate daguerreotype is housed in a full case with a rich gilded logo on the cover for Barrett & Stanley. This partnership started in Dublin in the 1840's and was in London during the 1850's.
