Group with leopard, plate No. 9 with an album of 13 photographs on salt paper from collodion glass negative, between 165mm x 220 mm and 105 x 137 mm. The album itself is 308 x 249 mm.
Auguste Jugelet was a painter and an talented early amateur photographer based in Paris on 11 rue Ville Leveque. He exhibited his photographs at the Societe Francaise de Photographie in 1859.
A student of Theodore Gudin, Jugelet was the self-proclaimed "Painter of the Marine Beaches of Dieppe" in spite of not being named an artist by the French Navy. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1831 to 1865. The Museum of Fine Arts of Reims retains many of his marine paintings of Brittany and Normandy.
