About This Image
This is a 'still photograph' from one of Melies' films by Melies himself. Melies was a very important pioneer filmmaker who worked for the Lumiere Brothers and other early film companies. His most popular film was "Trip to the Moon." He was revered by many of the Surrealists. There are several books on his work and influence. For one, see catalogue Melies, Centre Nationale de la Photographie, Paris, 1992.
