About This Image

A strong print. The massacre (or Indian rebellion) of the English at Kanpur (now spelt as Cawnpore) is recalled with agony and this memorial is a tribute to those who died during the Mutiny (uprising). See: Pohlmann and Siegert, Samuel Bourne: Sieben Jahre Indien, Photographien und Reiseberichte, 1863-1870, p.173.
