About This Image
A very important and classic stereo salt print from paper negatives by Humbert de Molard (occasionally spelt Mollard), a pioneer of French photography whose photographic works are some of the most difficult to find. Any work by this photographer outside of institutions is exceedingly rare. See: Prestige de La Photo, Nov. 1978, \"Humbert de Molard (1800-1874)\" for more information. IIlustrated on p.86 in Pye, E. Bacot, A. de Brebisson, A. Humbert de Molard: Trois Photographes en Basse-Normandie au XIXe Siecle. There is another copy of this image in the New York Museum of Modern Art where it is misdated.
