This is a rare photograph of Piazza Navona and the Bernini Fountain flooded with water. Until 1866, when the festival was suppressed, it was flooded on every Saturday and Sunday in August in elaborate celebrations of the powerful Pamphili family. The family palace, the Palazzo Pamphili, faces the piazza.
