Paul Eluard was a French poet who was one of the founders of the surrealist movement. Man Ray took several similar published portraits of Eluard in the same suit and tie. The exact corresponding negative is in the Fonds Man Ray at the Centre Pompidou.

Provenance: private French dealer Patrice Boudot de la Motte.
