About This Image
The study of movement or locomotion of the horse was the main focus of Marey\'s chrono-photographic studies, along with human locomotion and the flight of birds, right from the early 1870s onward.
In July, 1887, Marey co-authored with Pagès an important article in the \"Comptes Rendus de l’Académie des Science\" on \"Comparative Locomotion: pelvic limb movement in humans, elephants and horses\"; and on September 2, 1893, he was the sole author of a second article in the journal \"Nature\", entitled \"Locomotion compared in different animals, new applications of chronophotography\"; and in 1898, \"Analyse des mouvements du cheval par la chronophotographie\".
The print is possibly by Paul Nadar, who produced a number of Marey\'s prints in silver gelatin at the time, since he was working with Eastman Kodak.
