About This Image

Signed on the recto of the mount at bottom right.

Born in Pnhom Penh in 1908, Rene-Jacques moved to Paris and started to work there in 1924. He documented the social problems of the 1930s, and then worked for architects as well as for film studios. He illustrated several books by poets such as Carco, Peisson, Montherlant. After World War II he turned his camera to more rural subjects. He was a member of influential photographic circles in Paris such as Rectangle and Le Groupe des XV. Rene-Jacques donated his photographic work to the French State in 1990, the year in which he was named Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur. His donation is conserved and promoted by Patrimoine Photographique in Paris.
