About This Image

Dry stamp of the photographer below the image, \"Stabilimento Fotografico, G. Ninci\".

Born in Italy, Giuseppi Ninci (1823-1890) learned photography while working as an art appraiser in Tommaso Cuccioni\'s Roman studio. Although scholars know little about his life, an account book from the studio suggests that he occasionally supplied them with photographic chemicals and was paid for the sale of photographs that he made while working there. After Cuccioni passed away in August 23, 1864, Ninci continued to help his wife maintain the studio.

Around 1866 Ninci left Cuccioni to open his own studio in the city. Among his surviving photographic works is an eight-part folding panorama of the Roman Forum.

His work is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Getty Museum, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art,
