Matted and in custom black hardwood contemporary frame.Henry Stevens' (1843-1925) carbon prints of orchids are listed in the Oct. 7, 1882 issue of the Photographic Journal. He also received a medal from the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain for one of his flowers in 1882, as well as at the 1882 Brussels International Photographic Exhibition. He was a member of the RPS from 1882-1897. He took over his father's London auction house, which specialized in the sale of natural history specimens, and also sold 'curiosities' and antiquities. The firm continued after Henry's death, but closed in the 1940s, as the popularity of natural history sales waned.Henry lived in Addlestone in Surrey, U.K. He was known for his beautiful carbon enlargements from an 8 x10 in. negative. He took mostly images of flowers, then later his pets (a dog and a cat) and some portraits. He passed away in 1925.
