Wenner's "The Chasm" was singled out by the editors of the 1922 Photo-era magazine as one of the pictures "which make a greater appeal to us than others." F. J. Mortimer, a photographer himself and the editor of Photograms, notes, "…in 'Moutons sur la Falaise' (XLVI.), L. Wenner does mean us to regard the shepherd.
