About This Image
A really bizarre image that appears to be from about 1900 except for a cut and pasted label (that might or might not be original) that indicates that it is printed on "papier antique" and a stamp that might be the date (11-38). Lithographed on the recto of the mount is the photographer's information and Metz address (along with a very fancy border), which, if the photo is from 1938, then this image would be German instead of French. There are actors smoking fancy ivory pipes, playing accordion, pouring wine, holding cleaning tools (brooms, brushes and buckets), playing cards, imitating Prussian officers, etc. All of this in front of a stage set. With signage that says, "So leben wir auf der lustigen Stube (and maybe a date or number). The name of the play and the playwright's name (Walter Gygax, St. Turier, Swisse) is also on the label on the verso of the mount.
