About This Image
Signed on verso. A gorgeous hand-coated print.Susan Abrams (Merion, PA) began her artistic career as a papermaker and later began working with photography. Through the use of liquid emulsion she melds the darkroom work with the craft of hand-papermaking. The complex interaction of her paper and photographs results in unique, textural prints which accentuate the organic nature of her work. Her paper is coated with liquid emulsion which results in more variability than printing on traditional photo paper. Small differences such as the application or the thickness of the emulsion and the texture of the paper all affect the final print. She says, "A fascination with natural cycles, patterns and textures runs through my work and seeks to capture the beauty of a still point in life's chaos."Abrams is a self-taught artist. Her work is represented in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Free Library of Philadelphia, McGraw-Hill, Merck & Co. and other private collections in the US, Canada and Great Britain.
