Signed in crayon on recto of mount.Willy Boeckstyns was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1894. This Belgium photographer was an important salon artist and commercial photographer, who was active from the late teens to the 1940s. He exhibited in many salons, including the 1929 Internationella Fotografi Utsallninger, Konsthallen Gotaplatsen and the 1934 VIII Internationaal Kerstsalon, ingericht door de Fotografisch, Kring "Iris" in Antwerp, Belgium.His work is in the collections of the International Center of Photography and the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque Museum of Art.He worked in many photographic media, including gevalux and silver gelatin. He is known for his intelligent still lifes and is listed in the George Eastman House database and American Photographer salon listings.Willy Boeckstyns is a typical example of the Antwerp Photographic Movement, a photographer who searched for his own modernist language and tried to distance himself from the influence of Brussels and Wallonia Pictorialism.He died in 1968.
